Protecting our future through the voices of our whānau

Tukua te rongoā āraimate mō te anamata

Ko ngā kōrero ō tō tātou whānau

Across the Rotorua rohe, whānau have been sharing their own experiences and whakaaro about vaccinations - what it has meant for them, their tamariki and their mokopuna.

For many, these decisions are personal. They are shaped by whānau history, lived experiences, the influence of kaumātua and kuia, and the desire to care for the people they love.

To open up this kōrero, we spoke with several members of our hapori - Rāwiri Bhana, Dallas Hawe, Whaea Ellen Tamati, and Mackenzie Chadwick - who generously shared their perspectives and experiences of vaccinations within their own whānau.

They reflect on the whakaaro behind their decisions, the kōrero they’ve had within their whānau, and what protecting the wellbeing of their tamariki and mokopuna means to them.

Every whānau has its own journey. For some, vaccination decisions are influenced by the guidance of parents and grandparents. For others, it’s about the future - making choices with their tamariki and mokopuna in mind.

In these kōrero, our whānau talk about the people who have influenced them most, the lessons passed down through generations, and how those experiences have shaped their own thinking.

By sharing these stories, our hope is simply to create space for open kōrero and reflection within our hapori.
